  • Tired of spending too much money on books? Come check out the library’s terrific collection of best sellers, classics, how-to, biographies, business / finance, and much more.

We make it easy to find your favorite genre with our color coded label system.

    • Green = Mystery
    • Light Blue = Christian Fiction
    • Pink = Romance

  • Audiobooks

The library currently has approximately 600 audiobooks to choose from. Audiobooks are not only great for road trips, they can be enjoyed anytime it’s not convenient to sit down with a book. An audiobook can make walking or bike riding, cleaning the house, working on craft projects, and countless other activities more enjoyable.

Audiobooks can be very helpful to those suffering from eyesight or mobility problems too. The majority of the library’s audiobooks are unabridged editions which means the book is presented in its entirety.

    Playaway Devices

New to the library is a collection of Playaway devices. These portable devices hold an entire audio book conveniently housed in its own digital player. They only weigh about 2 ounces and fit in your pocket. You only need to plug in your headphones and go!

If you don't have your own headphones you may purchase some from the library for $1. Lanyards that attach to the Playaway device so that you may wear it around your neck are also available for $1 at the circulation desk.

  • Come see our fun and colorful children’s area. We have a wonderful collection of books for you to read to your child. When it is time for them to learn to read they can read to you from a growing collection of beginning readers available in a variety of reading levels. Toddlers love books too and the library provides a great selection of board books that are just right for their little hands.

  • Whether your child loves to read or has to read (does AR sound familiar?) chances are we have what they are looking for. We have the Blue Bonnet Award books too! Not sure what books are on your child’s AR list? The staff at the library is happy to help you locate the AR list on your child’s school website.

  • Hundreds of large print books are available for check-out from the Hewitt Library. Along with the library’s own growing collection, the library participates in a circulating large print book collection with other libraries in the central Texas area – titles are swapped every four months.

  • The library receives three local papers, the Waco Tribune Herald, the HomeTown News, and The Waco Citizen. The library also subscribes to numerous magazines such as Texas Parks & Wildlife, Oprah, Field & Stream, Parents, National Geographic, Smithsonian, Time, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, Texas Monthly, and Reader’s Digest to name a few. Please come by and relax in the library’s comfy sitting area and enjoy!

Do you have a bunch of magazines cluttering your home? Participate in the library's magazine swap located in the front foyer. Bring some and take some whenever you stop by.

  • The Hewitt Library now has a small collection of videos available for check-out. This collection was added thanks to generous donations from our patrons. Currently, the collection includes children's videos but we hope this will soon change as new materials are donated.

Videos are checked out for 7 days and incur late charges at $0.50 per day.

Video and DVD donations to the library are always appreciated!

  • Our teen book collection is growing and changing. Currently we have about 500 books for young adult readers, most of which are new and popular.
